Colin M. Beal, Ph.D. - Owner, CEO

Dr. Beal established Low Carbon Beef LLC in 2018 and manages the operations of the company.  He grew up raising cattle with his family and went on to receive engineering degrees from Virginia Tech (B.S.) and The University of Texas at Austin (M.S. and Ph.D.).  He returned to cattle ranching in 2011 while working for several large cattle ranches in Wyoming and started an Angus seedstock company (Beal Cattle Co.) in 2015, prior to launching Low Carbon Beef. 

Dr. Beal’s expertise spans economic analysis, environmental assessment, cattle breeding, and cattle production.  Beal Cattle Co. is a member of the American Angus Association, the Oklahoma Angus Association, the Texas Angus Association, and a partner herd with the second-largest seedstock producer in the U.S., Gardiner Angus Ranch.  Dr. Beal also owns an engineering company called B&D Engineering and Consulting LLC.


Michael E. Webber, Ph.D. - Science Advisor

Dr. Webber is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin and recently served as the Science and Technology Director at ENGIE, an international energy company based in France. He has also served as acting Director of the Energy Institute and the Josey Centennial Professor in Energy Resources. Dr. Webber has authored two books: Thirst for Power: Energy, Water and Human Survival; and Power Trip: the Story of Energy.  He was selected as a member of the 4th class of the Presidential Leadership Scholars, has authored more than 400 publications, holds 5 patents, and serves on the advisory board for Scientific American. Dr. Webber received a B.S. and B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin, and M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford. 


 

Leda Van Doren, Ph.D. - SCIENCE ADVISOR

Dr. Van Doren completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Cornell University after graduating from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. 

Dr. Van Doren has expertise in engineering design and life-cycle assessment, including teaching courses on life-cycle assessment and environmental analysis at Cornell and UNC-Chapel Hill. 


W.E. Beal, Ph.D. - Industry Advisor

Dr. Beal is Professor Emeritus of Animal Science at Virginia Tech and Colin’s father. Dr. Beal taught and conducted research at Virginia Tech for 31 years, earning several teaching and advising awards. He was recognized as one of the top 50 leaders in the history of the U.S. beef industry by BEEF Magazine. He has also worked closely with Gardiner Angus Ranch in Ashland, Kansas for decades. Dr. Beal an expert in the beef industry.


 

MEGHAN pUSEY - MARKETING ADVISOR

Meghan is a marketing and communications specialist with more than 20 years experience in both agency and corporate settings for food, agriculture, and technology companies.  She has worked with many food brands, most notably Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner and related beef industry organizations.  Meghan has a passion for storytelling and identifying creative ways to share compelling content across traditional and digital media.


Aubrey Mcclendon - Business

Aubrey has a BS from Oklahoma State University in Business and Finance and is experienced in customer service. She is committed to assisting customers and our partners to implement Low Carbon Beef efforts.
